A Wedding in Stuart – Kylie & Braden

The Bride

This bride is so very special to us. I have written this post a million times and I am still unsure of what to say. When I was asked to possibly photograph her wedding in Stuart…I was honored. We have known Kylie and her family for several years now. It all began when she started to baby sit for us. She came twice a week, and outside of that we also got to know her family at church (whom we love so very much!). Soon after, she graduated high school. Then it was off to college…and then soon engaged! I really admire this sweet girl and all that she stands for. Most of all she loves Jesus. She’s a straight shooter (so refreshing) and always stands up and speaks up for what she believes is right. And our kiddos, well they adore her.

Over time we have also gotten to know Braden (the groom) and his family. Our family has so much love for both of these families. And we were honored to be a part of witnessing Kylie and Braden join together in marriage and begin their big adventure of this wonderful life we live.

A Wedding in Stuart

I loved watching this wedding come together and hearing about the planning process. There were so many people within our church and within our community that poured their love, prayers and special gifts into their wedding day. Very cool to watch!

As part of our discussion about photos, the one thing that Kylie and Braden REALLY wanted at the end of the day was some really nice wedding portraits in a butterfly garden here in town, as well as some portraits at the beach. They have a mutual love for the beach (both being surfers) and they really wanted some pictures with a lucious foliage background. We had sunshine all day, until we didn’t.

You see, in Florida, we typically have AFTERNOON showers. Kylie and Braden planned their day so that we wouldn’t start wedding portraits until everything was over. And that way, we could shoot right through sunset and not have to worry about being anywhere, or those pesky afternoon showers. But God had a much better plan than ours that day. (As always – DUH!)  As soon as Kylie and Braden walked out of the tunnel of sparklers, waving good bye to their guests, the heavens opened up and the rain poured down. Not just rain. Lightening, thunder…and the radar was no where near clear for hours. Hmmm…we only had two hours of sunlight (on a sunny day) left. So we resorted to plan B. We shot all of the bridal party at the church inside and after it was over, we decided to shoot the rest in the rain.

Wedding Portraits – IN the RAIN

After driving to the butterfly garden, the rain kept coming down and the lightening only got worse. I have shot in the rain before, but never this bad. It was coming down in sheets and not one inch of you was going to be dry even after making a dash to the car. So I prayed -the whole way there. How can I make this work? It’s dark, SUPER wet, and the lightening is bad. As soon as I arrived I jumped in Kylie and Braden’s car. I was game but let them know my concerns – they looked at me and said we trust you, let’s do it! I love a bride and groom that aren’t afraid to get little (or a lot) wet!

With the help of a rockstar bridesmaid and groomsman holding lights and umbrellas…we got it done! We love the portraits that we came away with. They aren’t full of sunshine, beach and butterfly garden foliage, but what they are is raw, real, romantic, unexpected, beautiful images of two gorgeous people who just got married.  These images are by far some of my most favorite of the day.

Rain is Good Luck?

You know that saying that it is good luck to have rain on the day you tie the knot? Well I never knew why it was supposed good luck until recently – a wet knot is stronger than a dry knot. Love it!
